The young Belgian euphonium superstar just pipped tuba virtuosi Les Neish to the prestigious individual award with 26.8% to 23.4% of the votes.
A series of outstanding contributions with various bands in the past year saw him win at last three high-profile ‘Best Instrumentalist’ Awards, whilst his new CD is already attracting rave reviews. |

Zopas werden onze dirigent Bert Van Thienen (als soprano cornet) en euphonium speler Glenn Van Looy door 4barsrest.com verkozen in de 'Band of the Year'.
Hieronder vindt u de commentaren van de jury:
Soprano Cornet:
Another year in which picking just one soprano player proved to be a very difficult.
However, when it came down to it, and despite some wonderful performances from players of amazing brilliance, this man was still head and shoulders above the rest.
Bert Van Thienen (Cory)
Even though he didn’t play with Cory at the British Open, his performances with them elsewhere were nothing short of immense. At the Europeans he was simply sensational – producing a stunning display of the soprano player’s craft.
Euphonium Section:
There are so many top class euphonium players around that you could fill a band with them and still have a subs bench to die for.
Plenty of players who could more than do the job, but this gentleman was a class apart for us.
Glen Van Looy
Hard to find any fault with his playing in any performance anywhere in the world in 2011. ‘Nuff said.

BBH 4e op Dutch Open 2011 |

Brassband Heist behaalde een schitterende 4e plaats op het Dutch Open 2011 in Kerkrade, Nederland. Als jonge band die nog maar pas in de hoogste afdeling speelt, zijn wij er trots op ons te kunnen meten met de toppers uit de brassband wereld.
Uitslag:
- Brassband Treize Etoiles: 97,45%
- Brassband Buizingen: 94,37%
- Brass Band Willebroek: 92,39%
- Brass Band Heist: 90,16%
- Festival Brass Band: 88,66%

Glenn Van Looy wint Lieksa International Euphonium Competition |
Onze principal Euphonium Glenn Van Looy heeft in Finland de 2e editie van de prestigieuze Lieksa International Euphonium Competition gewonnen. Glenn werd als beste Euphonium speler verkozen boven de Amerikaan Gregory Battista en de Japanner Kyohei Ando. Proficiat Glenn!

Eurobrass 2011 - Brassband Heist wordt vierde - Glenn Van Looy beste solist |

Brassband Heist heeft een schitterende 4e plaats behaald op Eurobrass 2011 in het Nederlandse Drachten. BBH behaalde evenveel punten als de 3e band De Bazuin uit Oenkerk maar behaalde één puntje minder op het grote werk zodat BBH 4e werd. Een resultaat waar iedereen heel blij en trots mee is. Proficiat BBH.
Glenn Van Looy schitterde als solist met zijn uitvoering van het werk Proverbially. Een werk dat door componist Tom Davoren speciaal voor Glenn geschreven werd en zijn wereld première beleefde op Eurobrass 2011. Proficiat Glenn.

Bert Van Thienen beste solist op Europees Brassband kampioenschap |

 Tijdens het Europees Brassband kampioenschap 2011 in het Zwitserse Montreux werd onze dirigent Bert Van Thienen uitgeroepen tot beste solist.
Bert speelt soprano cornet bij de Cory Band uit Wales.
